1. What are the latest drivers for the Thunder and Lightning card?
The latest drivers for the Thunder and Lightning card can be found
on the Media Vision BBS as well as Compuserve.

The filename is T&LWIN.EXE

2. My computer will not post after I install the Thunder and Lightning
card. What do I do?
Try moving the VGA wait state setting jumper on-board. The wait state can
be adjusted by moving the J4 jumper on the Thunder and Lightning. The
machine beeps when it cannot find video BIOS, so you may want to try the
board in another slot. If it still doesn't post, the card is bad.

3. I am getting the error message, "No DSP hardware detected."
PLAYFILE may report this error on 386 or lower machines. The only failure
is in the test procedure, the card is functional.TBTEST reports no card found. What can I do to correct this?
If the motherboard chipset shares DMA1, then the sound card needs to be
modified by Media Vision. Please contact the Media Vision Technical
Support department for an RMA for your card. The error from TBTEST will be as follows.I/O address is XXXIRQ is XNULLNull indicates that TBTEST cannot find the sound card DMA.
4. What are all of the possible errors that TBTEST might report?
The possible error conditions include:

(0010)	Thunder Board I/O Error. Hardware Not Found!

a, This problem will occur if the Thunder Board is not
properly seated in its slot. Check the Thunder Board
to be sure it is squarely and evenly seated, and be sure
the Thunder Board bracket is securely fastened with a
	bracket screw.

b, It is also possible that the I/O address being used by
the Thunder Board conflicts with another device in your
system. Refer to the hardware installation guide for
instructions on how to identify and set the I/O address
	for the Thunder Board.

(0020)	Different Hardware Found. Thunder Board Not Detected!

(0031)	Unable to identify the IRQ generated from the Thunder Board!

This condition will occur if the jumpers used to set the IRQ
for the Thunder Board are not correctly set. Check your
Thunder Board to be sure that the shunts are squarely seated
on the jumper that corresponds to the IRQ that you would like
	to use.

(0032)	Unable to identify the IRQ generated from the Thunder Board!

This condition will occur when the IRQ setting being used by
the Thunder Board conflicts with another device in your
system. Refer to the hardware installation guide for
further instructions on how to modify or set the IRQ for
	the Thunder Board.

(0041)	Unable to perform DMA transfers to/from the Thunder Board!

This condition will only occur if the DMA circuitry used for
transferring data and from the Thunder Board has failed. If
this error message is displayed	contact your authorized
Thunder Board dealer, or Media Vision Technical Support

you can disable the audio portion of the card and use the Thunder and
Lightning as a display card only.

DOS drivers for the Thunder and Lightning.

8. Is the Thunder and Lightning card compatible with any other sound cards?

Yes. The Thunder and Lightning is both Sound Blaster and Adlib compatible.

variable for any software that uses the BLASTER variable to provide
Sound Blaster support. This can be entered on the command line,
AUTOEXEC.BAT, or any other batch file.

Here is the default line:

	SET BLASTER=A220 D1 I5 T3

D	DMA for Sound Blaster
I	IRQ for Sound Blaster
T	Type of Sound Blaster, 3 for SB.

Here are the steps to ensure that you have the MPU-401 emulation set up
properly on your Thunder and Lightning card.

1) MPU-401 emulation support requires a Media Vision MIDI Mate.

2) You must enable MPU-401 by configuring the switch 1 (SW1)
labeled DISMPU in upper left hand corner of card. The default is
disabled. Information regarding settings for SW1 is listed in section
2-10 and in section 7-13 (table 7-10) of T & L Users Guide.

Table 7-10
MPU-401 Settings

Switch 6 (DISMPU)
Enable OFF
Disable *	ON
* Denotes Default

3) Configure an IRQ and I/O port address.

Configure the IRQ by locating JP96 located near the base of the
card. By default the jumper is hanging off pin 15. Refer to section
7-12 in manual (table 7-8) for the IRQ configuration. Pins 1 & 2
will set the card up for IRQ 2. IRQ 2 which is recommended is the
industry standard MPU-401 IRQ

3,4	3
5,6	5
7,8	7
9,10	10
11,12	11
13,14	14
15,16	15

Configure the I/O port address by changing the switch settings
on SW1 on switches 8 (MBA0) and 9 (MBA1). Refer to section
7-12 in the manual (table 7-9) for the I/O configuration. Switch 8
and 9 are set to OFF to access port address 330 to 331. Port address
330 which is recommended is the industry standard MPU-401 port address.

4) Add the MPU-401 Driver to Windows through the OEM Setup
file provided with the T & L card drivers. The driver will be listed
as the "Roland MPU-401 MIDI I/O Driver" in the Installed Drivers list.

5) Set up the Midimapper for MPU-401 emulation.

Choose the Midimapper from the Control Panel
Choose New
